BRAZILIAN JUDICIARY POWER

The Judiciary Power in Brazil is the grouping of public entities with the constitutional attribution of providing juridical functions. It is formed by five entities: STF, STJ, federal regional courts and federal judges, military courts and judges, and state judges and courts in the federal district and territories.

The STF along with higher courts like the Superior Labor Tribunal (TST), the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE), and the Superior Military Tribunal (STM), are all headquartered in Brasília, the capital of the country. The STF comprises 11 ministers whose main task is to safeguard the constitution. The STJ has at least 33 ministers. The TST comprises 27 ministers who judge labor matters. The TSE has 7 members who judge electoral matters. The STM is composed of 15 ministers.

The body that exercises state judiciary power is the State Court of Justice along with judicial districts that encompass a small number of municipalities in addition to the headquarters municipality itself since no city has independent judiciary power. According to federal and state constitutions, only the Union and federative units should have Judicial Power.
